چکیده

a patient with middle cerebral aneurysm whose twin brother might have died from a cerebrovascular accident eight years previously. Jokl and Wolffe (1954) described sudden death from such diseases in identical twins. Chambers et al. (1954) were the first to detect this malady in father and son. Ross (1959) noted the occurrence of cerebral aneurysms in mother and daughter. Ulirich and Sugar (1960) reported the disorder in members of the same family--in two pairs of brothers, one uncle-nephew pair, and one brother-sister pair. In the European countries there have been occasional references on the subject in the German literature (Eck, 1957; Krayenbiihl and Yasargil, 1958), but none in the English literature. In a survey of 337 cases of proved intracranial aneurysms admitted to our unit during the period 1957 to 1965 six cases showed this familial incidence.

Familial cerebral aneurysms are currently the subject of burgeoning interest. We review the pertinent, recent reports on this topic in the light of our study of 17 families with familial cerebral aneurysms. The prevalence of familial cerebral aneurysms ranges from 5-28%. The sex distribution displays a female bias. Mothers are more often affected than fathers and daughters more than sons. There...

The familial incidence of intracranial aneurysms.

The occurrence of familial cerebral aneurysms lends support to the importance of congenital factors in their pathogenesis. The information on the subject is, however, still meagre, there being less than 20 reports in literature. Earlier literature mentions the occurrence of cerebrovascular accidents in members of the same family with polycystic kidneys (Dunger, 1904). Tonnis and Lange-Cosack (1...
